Writing marathon; What a great day!

I truly enjoyed the writing marathon day, me the person who does not pine to write. The lesson let me release the bad feeling I was having about a meeting that I went to the night before. If there is nothing else that I come away with from this class I have leaned that writing is so healing! It was great to draw the superintendent as "Hitler" and to continue my story board in the same fashion. Thanks to Nick and Melissa for teaching me this new skill.

I really got a different perspective about Graphic Novels, I found out they are much better then I thought. I was never a big comic book fan myself so I never gave them real chance. Now I can look at them in a more educated way and appreciate them more. I always saw them as a good way for a poor reader to be successful, but now I think they have real use for good reader too.

I really enjoyed Melissa's presentation of the art pieces also. I really enjoy art and it was great, rather than just looking at it myself, to look at it and hear several perspectives. It makes the piece so much interesting.

July 16, 2008

Thank God this morning is over! My presentation is complete and that is one more thing off my to -do list that was very stressful for me. It went pretty well, if I do say myself, at least there was a lot of laughing. We came up with many ideas of how to use this with an older group.

I really enjoyed Jackie's book talk and writing idea. This seem like such an easy way to come up with writing ideas with all levels of children. Thanks Jackie for the great idea!

How did the internet start?

I often wondered how the Internet got started. In my early career in teaching I had TRS80's in my classroom and really had no idea what to do with them. Thank God I also had two students that did have a great deal of knowledge about these computer and were willing to share it with us all. After that there was the Apple with the five inch floppy that had to read on both sides. I use this for keeping track of grade. It was really more trouble than it was worth but I did it because that is what my school wanted me to do. My husband had a computer at work that he could look up and order parts from. It ran on DOS and I had no idea what that was either. Then one day our of nowhere we could email. I don't remember how exactly that all got started.

After reading the first chapter of Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts I learn it was started by a man named Berners-Lee he used it as a medium to collaborate with other researchers and government officials in 1989. Then came the Mosaic Web Browser it was not easy to create content on the web. This did become easier and by 2003 53 million American adults were users of the Internet for publishing. This has continued to grow exponentially and even i can post on the web!
